Niles Home Fundraiser

Sponsorships opportunities are still available as well. Niles Event at Arrowhead a Success!

Hundreds turned out for “Homecoming through the Decades,” a fundraiser for Niles Home for Children at the Tower Club at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday night. Dancing, singing and an eclectic music mix that featured songs from decades of homecomings past made the evening one to remember. The Tower Club at Arrowhead was an elegantly perfect venue for the first edition of what is bound to be a highlight of Kansas City special events calendars for years to come! Niles Home Event – Sept. 15!

Hi Friends –

Hope you had a great summer vacation, despite the agonizing heat.  It has definitely been a while since I last posted a blog, but I am very excited to share information with you about an upcoming charity event I am hosting with Niles Home for Children: “Homecoming through the Decades.” This is a fundraising event and will be held on September 15, 2012 at Arrowhead Stadium on the luxurious Tower Club level.

Although I have played in many memorable games at historic Arrowhead Stadium, September 15, 2012 will be an event to remember. Celebrate music of the decades with me. 70s music is my personal favorite! Remember the funky chicken? Have fun challenging your friends to sing songs from any era. I know I will!  Purchase beautifully framed children’s art, bid on silent auction items, or simply hang out and enjoy a view of the field from the Club’s veranda. The tickets are $75 per person (and include two complimentary beverages). You may purchase your ticket(s) online at www.nileshomekc.org.

The event is less than 30 days away – so show your support and purchase tickets now, or inquire about sponsorships. If you have any questions, please contact the Niles Home Director of Fund Development, Melissa Taylor at mtaylor@nileshomekc.org or at816-241-3448.

On a personal note, I am honored to be teaming up with Niles Home for Children and serve as their event chair. Niles Home has been serving Kansas City for the past 129 years, providing intensive support services for area youth and their families.  I encourage you all to join me and come out and have a fun evening while also supporting a great cause.

Continue to watch my blog for future event updates.  See you at the “Homecoming.”

Ted Tangos this Saturday Night!

From TedRMcKnight.com:

It’s down to the wire people. Ted is on stage Saturday night, March 24th for “Dancing with the KC Stars”!

Lila and Ted

Weeks of practice have led to this moment of truth. Ted and Lila, onstage in front of hundreds: Dancing the tango. Ted selected the scene from “Scent of a Woman” (the 1992 Al Pacino film) where a blind Pacino takes the lovely Gabrielle Anwar on a Tango tour of the ballroom floor to the classic Tango anthem “Por Una Cabeza” (by Carlos Gardel) as his inspiration.

In this case, the featured dance partners are former NFL running back Ted McKnight and his lovely and talented dance instructor, professional ballroom dancer Lila Shultz.  The media hysteria may not be quite as intense as the silver screen, but the lights couldn’t be brighter: Hundreds are expected to attend this edition of “Dancing with the KC Stars” at the Sheraton Crown Center Hotel on Saturday night.

If you don’t have tickets yet, there may be just a few left. Contact Cristo Rey School (the event’s benefactor) for information.

A Teaching Moment

Or, you can also “Vote for Ted” through your donation to the cause on the Cristo Rey website. Either way, if you’re a friend or associate of Ted’s, now’s the time to step up and make a donation. Ted’s done the months of dance training – he’s counting on you to be kind and generous through donations to this wonderful cause!

The Tango

Following are a few video clips from Ted and Lila’s second-to-last rehearsals this past Thursday night. I think you’ll agree: The two of them look great! We hope you can join us for this great event benefiting the Cristo Rey School.

Vote for Ted McKnight: Dancing with the Stars!

From Ted:

Friends –

I’m getting down to the wire on perfecting my Tango skills as I prepare for “Dancing with the KC Stars” at the Sheraton Crown Cener Hotel next Saturday night, March 24th. My dance partner, Lila Shultz, and I are working on our final dance flourishes and footwork, in other words: I’m trying really, really hard not to step on Lisa’s feet!

In all seriousness though, we are very excited to be taking part in this fantastic event for Cristo Rey School. Our goal is to raise the most of any of the dance teams – and we need your help. There are a couple of ways to help out:

First, you might still be able to get a seat or two at the actual, “Dancing with the KC Stars” event. As you read this, the event may well be sold out; but here’s a link to the Cristo Rey website  if you’re interested in checking on reservations.

The other way to help is to “Vote” for Lila and I prior to the event through an online contribution to Cristo Rey. You can pledge as little or as much as you please – your choice. But remember, every little bit matters – we want to win! Heres a link to Cristo Rey’s voting page.

Lila and I did a little Tango sneak preview at a fundraiser a couple of weeks ago. In case you missed it, here we are – a pre-dance snippet:

Video: Ted and Lila Shultz demo the Tango.

At the pre-fundraiser the other evening, I also told a little story about the reason I decided to take a risk and do the Tango on stage in front of all. The essence of my story: It was on my “bucket list” – and the dance is  for a cause I truly believe in, the Cristo Rey School. Here’s a little video clip about my “bucket” list:

Video: Ted talks about his bucket list.

To recap: Prior to the event you can “vote” for me online through your donations. And, if there are any tickets still avaiable, I’d certainly like to invite you all to join me at the Sheraton on March 24! For more details, visit the Crystal Rey website.

Dancing with the KC Stars

Thank you in advance for your donations and support. “Dancing with the KC Stars” will be a great night for all; I hope you can join me March 24th!

Ted McKnight – Dancing With the KC Stars!

From Ted:

Friends –

This dancing “thing” just keeps getting bigger and bigger! Last week some of you took part in the fundraiser for Cristo Rey School at Outlaw Cigar South. At that great event you had the opportunity to meet my “Dancing with the KC Stars” dance partner, Lila Shultz. Lila was kind enough that evening to help me demonstrate a little snippet of the Tango we have planned to perform at the actual “Dancing with the KC Stars” event (to be held on Saturday, March 24 at the Sheraton Crown Center Hotel – formerly the Hyatt Regency).

If you missed the event  here’s a video link to our little sneak preview:

At the Outlaw Cigar fundraiser the other evening I also told a little story about the reason I decided to take a risk and do the Tango on stage in front of all – and apparently without a safety net! The essence of the story: It was on my “bucket list” – and it was for a cause I truly believe in, the Cristo Rey School. Here’s a little video clip about my bucket list:

Video: Ted talks about his bucket list.

In short, as a professional athlete, I studied a thousand plays – our playbook. But through my preparation for “Dancing with the KC Stars” there has been no playbook. I have an instructor, the talented and graceful Lila Shultz, who teaches me, week-by-week, the steps to the routine. The one thing both football plays and dancing on stage have in common: Once started there is no stopping – once we begin, there is commitment! And, there is no starting over!

The benefit for me, beyond learning the wonderful Tango with Lila, is in knowing that my hard work will pay off with donations to Cristo Rey School.

Prior to the event, you can “vote” for me online through your donations. And certainly I’d like to invite you all to join me at the Sheraton on March 24! For more details, visit the Crystal Rey website.

Thank you in advance for your donations and support. “Dancing with the KC Stars” will be a great night for all, and I hope you can join me March 24th.

And to Lila (my dance instructor), I apologize in advance for any bruised toes – remember, it’s all for a great cause!

Outlaw Benefit is this Wednesday, Feb. 29th!

That’s right friends, the Second Annual Cigar Night benefit  for Cristo Rey is THIS WEDNESDAY, February 29 from 7:00 – 9:00. You don’t want to miss it. There will plenty of great wine, delectable drinks, fine smokes and great fellowship. You need to be at this one!

Following are details from Ken Mellard, the event coordinator:

It’s official. Our second annual “Cigar Night” benefiting Cristo Rey is this Wednesday, February 29th at Outlaw Cigar South (13700 Metcalf, Overland Park, 913-814-9000) from 7:00 to 9:00.

This year, Ted McKnight is the honoree. Ted is a former Chiefs player and CBIZ producer. Since Ted is a member of the Chief’s Ambassador Club, it is likely that a few current and former Chiefs players will be in attendance.

Ted spent a number of years on the football field for the Kansas City Chiefs, from 1977 through 1981 as a running back. He gained distinction on the field as the team’s leading rusher and has set several records that still stand today.

Ted’s currently a member of the Chiefs Ambassadors, a group of former NFL players that have dedicated themselves to the team and community through personal appearances, public speaking, autograph signings and other philanthropic endeavors.

Admission remains $100 (tax deductible) and includes the world’s finest hooch, best Montecristo cigars, tasty finger foods and, of course, memorable conversations with old friends and new. Guys who attended last year asked for a repeat this year because it was so much fun.

So, please, respond to my email (kmmellard@gmail.com) to confirm your attendance. And please forward this to a friend!

(From Admin: Please use “Share” buttons below to easily forward.)

The event starts at 7:00 and ends at 9:00 or thereabouts.
